Robert V. Goldsmith III

Robert (Trey) Goldsmith joined the firm Of Counsel in 2016 and specializes in tax incentive programs, commercial litigation, economic development, corporate governance, asset protection, and tax law. He represents domestic and international entities doing business in the Virgin Islands in day-to-day operations, funding, crisis management, mergers and acquisitions, corporate entity formation, and risk management.

Trey is also affiliated with Caine | Goldsmith, an Alabama-based firm focusing on utilities law, economic development, tax incentive and abatement programs, corporate governance, business litigation, and crisis management.

He co-authored “Bridge Over Troubled Waters: Service During Disaster as a Form of Professionalism,” American Bar Association Section of Litigation Ethics and Professionalism Committee, June 2011.

Trey holds a B.A. in Business Administration, Summa Cum Laude, from Athens State University, where he was awarded the Law School Admissions Test Scholarship. He earned a J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he received the Barbri Award for Academic Excellence and Service. He was on the National Environmental Moot Court Team and served as a Clinic Fellow for the school’s clinical programs.

Trey is admitted to practice law in the US Virgin Islands and Alabama, and before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the US Tax Court, as well as before multiple federal district and bankruptcy courts in the United States and the US Virgin Islands. Trey was selected to Super Lawyers in Business Litigation in 2017 and 2018 (Super Lawyers is a rating service that honors attorneys who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement).
